Helmet prevents serious injury in Union Township motorcycle crash


Police said a 39-year-old Mount Pleasant man's helmet is credited with saving him from extensive injuries after he hit a whitetail deer on his motorcycle. The man was riding his 2004 Harley Davidson Road King north on U.S. 127 at 9 p.m. Saturday when he collided the deer. He was thrown from the motorcycle, according to the Michigan State Police.  The man was wearing a Michigan Department of Transportation-approved helmet. Police said the helmet played a key factor in preventing severe injuries. The helmet was severely damaged form the impact of the man being thrown. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
