Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe to hold day of remembrance for students of Mt. Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School


The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan will hold the second annual “Honoring, Healing and Remembering” day of remembrance in honor of the students who died while attending the Mt. Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School on Wednesday June 6. Over 179 children died at the school, which was open from 1855 to 1934, said Frank Cloutier, Public Relations Director for the tribe. The day-long event will begin with a sunrise ceremony at Mission Creek Cemetery at 1475 S. Bamber Road at 7 a.m.
