Come sail away with Styx in Mount Pleasant ... if you already have a ticket

Lawrence Gowan has an interesting philosophy when it comes to carrying on the Styx legacy. Still the “new” lead singer after 13 years at the helm, “I’m always cognizant of what’s come before, and that there are people who miss the way it was,” he said. “The best way to do this is to become familiar with what was done in the past, and hit the stage living in the moment, performing with guys who are at the top of their game.” The show coming Friday, March 2, to Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant is sold out. Today’s line-up —veterans Tommy Shaw and James “J.Y.” Young, along with Gowan; Todd Sucherman, who joined after John Panozzo’s death, and Ricky Phillips — have performed live more times since 1999, including two Super Bowl pregame appearances, than Styx did in all the earlier years combined.
