CMU plans Martin Luther King Jr.-inspired events next week; Civil Rights activist Guinier to appear

Central Michigan University officials next week plan to host several events celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. The college’s Multicultural Academic Student Services department is organizing the schedule, which includes a march across Mount Pleasant, a peace vigil and an appearance by Civil Rights activist Lani Guinier. The celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday with a brunch event with CMU President George E. Ross at the Bovee University Center. Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce President Lisa Hadden will present the keynote address at the gathering, where seating is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis, college officials say.
